HK Week One
♥ Saturday, September 01, 2007 23:45

Hey mates, first blog entry since I left. Pictures are up. :) Do click on them to enlarge if you cant see the pictures well. Narration of my first week is about to begin, ready? Here we go.

Sunday.

My boss asked if I wanted him to pick me up from the airport days before I left but I rejected his kind offer. I wanted to make my way there myself. I kinda regretted my choice as I had 36 kg of baggages to carry. Call me Superwoman! :)

Apparently, I had to change to an airport shuttle bus in order to get to the terminal. AHAHAHAH. I forgot how my checked-in luggage looked like so I waited VERY long before I found mine. Eventually, I left the passengers' section and headed for the Airport Express Customer Service Centre to buy my octopus card. Unforunately, there was a very long queue and I really wasnt keen on queueing up with my luggages so I left for the bus I was told to take.

You know in Singapore, the signs to bus interchange in Changi Airport is called Bus to City right? However, it is stupidly named AirBus in Hong Kong which obviously didnt link. I walked around for a while looking high and low for the words "Bus Terminal" etc but I couldnt find them at all. In the end, I decided to take a gamble and walked towards "AirBus". YAY-E! I found it.

As I didnt carry any coins with me, I went over to the Customer Service counter to change. Okay this was when I got mad. The bloody fellow told me to change with the bus driver! Fuck him la! Which bus driver in this world carries small change for passengers? Thank God, there were other passengers on the bus! I managed to change for coins with this Aunty. Fuck the bus driver for driving without allowing me to place my luggages properly first.

Despite the attitude of the bus driver, I enjoyed the journey a lot. HAHAHAH. There's so much to see. About 45 minutes later, I reached my destination. HEE HEE. Called my boss to meet him. SURPRISE SURPRISE, guess who was with him? Ha Ha Ha! Partner's mother. Pleasant surprise I must say. Would have been very awkward without her presence. Had a typical Hong Kong lunch at this Dim Sum restaurant. We had to share a table with this 3-person family! Fuck the mother la. She was damn loud and rude. Oh! Hong Kong people enjoy spending their Sundays doing nothing but reading newspaper in a restaurant after lunch and they will most probably stay on for dinner at the same restaurant. YEAH! We left at around 1700 but they were still reading the newspaper. OH MY!

Headed for the place I call home for the next 10 weeks. Unpacked a little. Left to shop for dinner ingredients in the nearest market, Yau Oi Market. I cannot tell you how shocked I was when I saw the wet market. At around 1900, the crowd was unbelievable and the fishes were still alive and kicking. Very fresh raw food we have here. Ate dinner with boss and partner's mother. :) My boss cooked. HEE HEE.

Monday and Tuesday.

Decided to report to work in semi-formal attire to feel close to the rest of you. So I wore a formal blouse to work. :) I was told to meet a colleague who will bring me to work. So I took the shuttle bus out and met her at the bus stop. Erm.... took a bus to work and she had to bring me to the bank because she had some business to settle there. And damn she walks like a chicken. Very fast. The sun was like scorching hot, I was in a thick blouse and she had to walk fast. ARGH!

Had take-away for lunch since it is the HK culture to call for lunch. OH MY GOD!!! My fried udon was like oil-filled udon. I nearly had a heart attack eating it. Dumped it real fast. After work, went to the supermarket with the same colleague who I met this morning as she lives the closest to me.

Instead of killing my body slowly in Hong Kong, I opt to dine outside with Mavis at MACDONALD's. :) Cheeseburger! Happy Meal! Toy! Orange Juice! Fries! Happy! Oh the guy who took my order spoke to me in english after I said what I wanted. Damn! My cantonese must have sucked! Had dinner alone after work.

Wednesday.

I am madly in love witht the Light Rail station and the Light Rail. I dont like LRT in Singapore anymore. My Singaporean supervisor's birthday was simply celebrated with a yummy cheesecake from a famous Hong Kong confectionary, Mei Xin or Maxim in english.

Thursday and Friday.

Meetings are on Thursdays after work. Actually HK practises a 6-day work week. Meaning like some of you guys I am supposed to work on Saturdays as well. However, my boss decided to have meetings on Thursdays after working hours instead of Saturdays. The good news is that he pays for the dinner since we have to stay back till 2000, 2100. Went home to do laundry. HEE HEE. First time I am washing my own clothes. :) Oh, there's a washing machine, in case you're thinking I hand-washed.
The bus that brings me to work is K58 and the last bus is at 2000. The meeting ended around 2010 so I had to take an alternative route home. Thankfully, Mavis shown me the way. :) We took the LIGHT RAIL!!!! Happy happy Happy!

Nothing much took place on Friday. Had HK fast food for dinner. :) YumYum.

Saturday.

Went to the Post Office to post out some letters in the morning. Met Mavis at Lai Chi Kok. We were supposed to go to the famous warehouse area but we forgot. Instead, we travelled by MTR to Mongkok for lunch and SHOPPING! After Mongkok, we continued shopping at Tsim Sha Tsui which was about 2 MTR stops away.

As you read, you'll realise that my narration gets shorter. Sorry man. I am getting a little tired with my honestly. As for the other details I will tell you guys individually.
